How NCAA D1 Qualifying Standards Work

Automatic Qualifying Standard

Athletes who achieve the automatic qualifying standard are guaranteed entry to the NCAA Championships. These marks are set to ensure the top performers in each event compete at nationals.

Provisional Qualifying Standard

If not enough athletes achieve the automatic standard, the field is filled from those who have achieved the provisional standard, ranked by performance. Typically 24 athletes compete in each event.

Qualifying Window

All qualifying marks must be achieved during the official qualifying window (May 1-28, 2025 for outdoor). Marks must be achieved at sanctioned meets with proper officiating and timing systems.

Wind and Conditions

Sprint and horizontal jump marks must be wind legal (max +2.0 m/s). All marks must be achieved at NCAA-approved facilities with certified equipment and officiating.
